Studio Snapshots

Inspired by the photos some of you in the blogosphere have been taking of art supplies, I took my camera with me into my little studio. It was fun snapping shots of things that I use to create my pieces.

Sometimes I get so busy using my brushes and paints that I forget how cool looking they are by themselves. Especially when they’re on a well-used pallette! I think I’ve had that one since I was a teenager…

This is one of my works in progress. I love to cut phrases and words out of my collection of old books. They often end up in one of my pieces. It’s fun to play around and see what combinations strike my fancy.

There you have it…my studio snapshots. Have a wonderful day!

Sometimes, you gotta go for a walk…

Whether you’re an artist or not, inspiration is a great motivator. Inspiration can come from something as sacred as faith or something as silly as a child’s sleepy giggle (which, now that I think about it, is sacred too).

Sometimes, though, ya just gotta go for a walk.

That’s right, a walk.

We’re very blessed to live near a lot of charming waterfront towns that are perfect to meander through….and, of course, take pictures of and gather moments of inspiration. Maybe a little relaxation, too!

Do you have a place that you go to gather inspiration from?

Blessings,

More artful ventures…and a kitchen tease

I haven’t drawn or painted faces in so long that I was nervy about how to do this piece.
While she isn’t perfect, I like her quirkiness….and her paper flower barret.
Um, forgive the mess in the background.

This piece has become one of my faves and was inspired by….well, by Family. I’ve had this floating around in my noggin for a while and I finally figured out a way to to it. Pressed, dried leaves from our yard were used to get those leaf shapes in the background. By painting around the edges, the shape of the leaf came to life on the canvas.

I know. I used nature to cheat……but it was sooo much fun!

And now a little Kitchen Remodel Tease~

I took that mantle that my In-Laws so graciously helped me save from the side of the road and used a pickling technique on it. The pickling lightened it up while letting the wood show through. Hubs had the brilliant idea of using it in the dining area of our kitchen like a shelf since there’ll be no room for a buffet, etc.

This is the light fixture that will hang over the table. It took me a while to find a fixture that wouldn’t break the bank but didn’t look “chinchy”….well, I don’t think it looks cheap, anyway.

Chinchy? Another way of saying cheap.
