I heart burlap~ Easy Fall table topper

What is a creative Mommy to do when she wants to pretty up a table for Fall and there’s a toddler with a penchant for yanking tablecloths off of the table in the house?

Grab some scissors (not for the toddler, of course!), some burlap and another bit of fabric in a Fall-inspired color.  That’s it…no sewing required!  Well, unless you just gotta

Making sure that little fingers were safely out of the way, I laid my burlap fabric out on my table and put my pinking shears to work.  I cut it to a length that stopped a few inches short of the table’s edge.  Next, I trimmed the finished edge off of the burlap to give it a more rustic feel.

To keep the rustic feel going, I further frayed the ends by pulling away extra strands.  I kept those strands, by the way.  I never know when they might come in handy in another creation!

Finally, I took my orange fabric and folded it.  That’s right, I folded it!  I cleaned up the edges a bit with my handy pinking shears, but that was it.  If the fabric had been extremely wrinkled, I would have taken and iron to it but, thankfully, there was no need.

For now, it’s topped with one of my painted grapevine wreaths and a little porcelain birdie.  In a few weeks a pumpkin will probably grace the spot where the birdie is now.  I like that this is versatile…I may even add another strip of patterned fabric or ribbon on top to jazz it up a bit.

So there you have it, a no-sew Fall table topper that won’t attract the attention of curious toddlers!  Also, if I remember correctly, the cost was less than $5.00.

I heart burlap, y’all.
Sweet Shot Day

I’m linking up with Darcy and the Sweet Shot Tuesday crew over at my 3 boybarians…

It’s a new day….

It was a rough week this past week.  Grief hit me hard as what would have been Momma’s birthday came and went.

*sigh*

Today is a new day, though, and I’m ready to dive in to the many creative ventures that await me.  I’m getting a birthday shindig together for my Daddy, adding touches of fall decor around the house, even creating some fun holiday display items for my upcoming arts and crafts show in November…just to name a few.

There’s just something about the advent of the Fall season that sends my creative side into overdrive.  So I’m going with it!

Somerset Life- Inspiration on Paper

Inspiration.

Even if you’re not an artist, it comes in handy.

  • Ideas for mid-week meals
  • Ways to make the decorating budget stretch
  • Organizing…well, anything
  • A new approach to a pesky problem

You get the idea.

Every now and then I need to take in some inspiration to keep the creative -and “get it done”- groove flowing.

Right now I’m loving the Jul./Aug./Sept. issue of Somerset Life that my sweet Daddy bought me on a recent jaunt through Barnes and Noble.

I love all of their publications, to be honest.

Oh, the colors and textures just call to me!

Then, the content and the sense of sharing keeps me coming back….and keeps me inspired.

What keeps your creative juices going?
